Indian Premier League is going to change the way cricket is played. Right now the league has been scheduled in such a way that not many ODI matches are happening at that time. In coming years other ODI matches will have to wait for the IPL to finish. Twenty20 will dominate the world cricket.
When india won the world cup in 1983, ODIs became a hit in india, and with a big cricket following indian cricket board soon became the top money maker in cricket world.
India winning the First Twenty20 world cup will have a similar effect. IPL will make the 20-20 cricket so lucrative, that many ODI players will retire faster to join IPL. This trend seem to have started already. When ODI became very popular, people lost interest in Test Cricket, Now with IPL the ODI can have the same fate as Test cricket, and in coming few years, young cricketers won't even know what Test cricket is!!!
